At the Nursrey

Morningdew sat by the nursery, licking her ruffled fur that was blowing madly in the wind. Now is not the best time to be pregnant with kits, she thought, licking her swollen belly. She looked up from her grooming at the nursery, wondering how many more anxious weeks -even moons- it would be before her precious kits were born. They would be her first litter.
She let her gaze wander across the deserted camp; all of the warriors- and the one apprentice- were out hunting. I wonder what my kits will look like, and how many of them there will be, she pondered.
As a new gust of wind blew up, swirling the cold flakes around her, she thought ~ just for the sake of it~ of what kitten names she liked. Aspenkit, Maplekit, Willowkit.... they all sound so lovely. She wanted to name her kits the best names she could think of... and the names she had come up with sounded entrancing.... but for some reason didn't seem fitting.
Morningdew was brought out of her daydreaming by another blast of icy air clumping her fur into tufts of gray. "So much for all of that work," she mumbled to herself, thinking of her grooming that she had spent the last couple of minutes washing.
Suddenly, the scent of fresh-kill was brought to her by the twisting winds, coming from the gorse entrance. She saw a white and peachy-orange pelt, accompanied by bright eyes that were obviously proud of his meager~ but supplemental supply of a combination of a few winter hares and some daring squirrels that had ventured out to collect their harvest from the ground.
"Flamepaw!"

Flamepaw (who had just returned from a short hunting trip near Sunningrocks) had just emerged from the bracken tunnel when he heard his name being called, pricked his ears in the pretty queen's direction raised his tail in a friendly greeting. He hurriedly ran to the fresh-kill pile, depositing his catch, then selecting a fat hare from the pile. He trotted briskly towards Morningdew, the prey dangling from his jaws temptingly. "Hello, Morningdew... see! I caught some prey! I hope its enough, though," he said with a quick glance at Morningdews swollen belly.

Morningdew watched him take a rabbit from the pile and bring it over to her, laying it at her feet. When he greeted her, she noted that -in a lower voice- he had mentoined his fears about it not being able to sustain her and her unborn kits. "Why thank you, Flamepaw! Here- let's share it," she offered graciously. She saw the relief in the young cats eyes- she knew that he was probably hungerier than she was. When he bent down next to Morningdew to take a hungry gulp of the still warm flesh, Morningdew stopped him with a gentle stare. "And don't you worry about not having enough food to sustain little old me. I'll be fine- that's why I'm sharing this with you." With that, she gave him a hasty lick on his forehead, then settled down to eat.

ooc:// I kind of, well, taught myself how to draw like that, and I've been drawing ever since I was... (hmm...)...around four.

*ps* May I suggest we continue this conversation in email? I dont want this thread to get too crammed, and I don't want Lily (*HEAD ADMIN*) to get mad at us!
